Why choose Dermapen Skin Needling?
Dermapen is a Skin Needling device that uses multiple needles to vertically pierce the skin with advanced oscillating technology. When moved across the skin, Dermapen allows for millions of fine channels to be created in the skin. These channels can carry up to 80% more topical nutrients, allowing for transdermal delivery of these nutrients deeper into the skin to feed cells found in the dermis and basal layer of the epidermis.
Dermapen systematically creates micro-punctures in the skin and the body responds in a natural way by launching processes to repair the physical damage. The result is an increased production of normal woven collagen, similar to fractional laser treatments, but without the side effects and downtime.
Dermapen treatments have also been found to be more effective and beneficial than most microdermabrasion and chemical peels. When compared to traditional dermal rollers, Dermapen causes less epidermal (skin) damage, which reduces pain and discomfort and makes Dermapen a safer, more comfortable and more effective micro-needling treatment.
Dermapen disposable cartridges eliminate risk of cross-contamination, whilst the adjustable needle depth allows for a treatment that is fully tailored to your individual needs. Dermapen is so advanced, it is even suitable and safe to use in delicate and hard to reach areas such as those around the eyes, over the lips and on the nose.
Your clinician will assess your skin and treatment area to recommend a treatment plan and homecare routine suitable to you.

How do I prepare my skin for a Dermapen treatment?
You must prepare your skin using at least one active ingredient in serum form, this can be Vitamin A, Vitamin C or AHA’S and BHA’S. We recommend using a gentle cleanser, 50+ broad spectrum sunscreen, hydrating night moisturiser and a vitamin B serum both before and after your treatment for best results.
Your skin technician will perform a skin consultation to make sure you are ready for this treatment and that your skin barrier is not impaired. You must make sure you are not sunburnt before having the treatment done and if you are prone to coldsores, you can use the medication/cream before the treatment to prevent any coldsores from occurring before and after your treatment.
Exfoliate your skin before the treatment or your therapist can perform a facial/peel or microdermabrasion before your needling treatment (for clients treating scarring, ageing or pigmentation, a microdermabrasion can be performed on the day, right before the needling treatment). Your skin technician will recommend the appropriate homecare routine for you to follow before and after your treatment.
How long should it take before I see results?
Typically, you will see results after the first treatment. Longer lasting and more significant results will become visible after 5-6 treatments (spaced 2-6 weeks apart). The condition of your skin will continue to improve over the next 6-24 months after a course of treatments, especially when combined with the recommended post treatment care.
Is the treatment painful?
For minimal needle depths, dermapen treatments are relatively painless. Treatments using depths over 0.5mm may require a topical anaesthetic cream to be applied for 15-30 minutes before the procedure. This will render the treatments virtually pain free. The topical anaesthetic is $50 extra per treatment.
Is there downtime after treatments?
Generally no, but you may experience facial redness for 12-48 hours after the treatment. Most people are able to return to normal daily activities immediately after the treatment. Some flaking and peeling can occur for a few days post treatment. No makeup is to be worn for 12 hours after the treatment.
What is the recommended aftercare?
A daily broad spectrum 50+ sunscreen must be used daily and our Vitamin B hydrating serum must be used in the morning and night. We recommend a gentle cleanser and a hydrating moisturiser for night time. Do not use any active ingredients such as Vitamin A, Vitamin C or AHA’S and BHA’S for 7 days after treatment. Do not exfoliate your skin for 7 days after treatment. Do not wear makeup, waterproof sunscreen or tinted moisturiser for 12 hours. Do not exercise for 48 hours after and be sun smart.
How soon after botox and filler can I have a Dermapen treatment?
While there is no clinical evidence that Dermapen treatments counteract with any injectables, it is important to let your clinician know if you have had an injectable treatment or are planning on having one in the near future.
Your clinician will be able to advise you on when to schedule your treatment appropriately. It is best to avoid Dermapen treatments 2 weeks before and after botox and fillers.
Check with your skin expert before proceeding with Dermapen if you are: pregnant, using blood thinners such as warfarin or if you are susceptible to keloid scarring. We DO NOT treat over keloid scars, severe acne conditions, severe solar keratosis, raised moles/warts, eczema or psoriasis.
